Dear Hallmark,
I just want to thank you for being such a dear friend during the holiday season. You make my life so very “Merry and Bright”!
When I was growing up you meant greeting cards and gift stores. But now, I hear your name, and I think of a cozy fire, warm socks and hot chocolate. Candy canes, mistletoe, and holly.
You keep me company while I write my Christmas cards, prepare my photo books and wrap holiday gifts. That’s quite a friend!
You are super creative too, always giving me great ideas. I wonder though, at how you get your Christmas decorations so perfect? They all match and never seem to get in the way.
You’re such a good friend, always offering up chocolate and Christmas cookies. I wish you would share your secret with me— you look so trim and never seem to gain a pound during the season!
I was wondering, Hallmark, if you wouldn’t mind taking me shopping for the day. I marvel at how well your coat always matches your outfit. You even choose the most perfect shoes and boots to go with. Do your feet ever get wet and cold when you walk up and down the main street in the winter? Do you ever fall and slip on the ice in those heels? Let me guess, only when there is a handsome man near to catch your fall (wink, wink).
While we are at it, maybe a spa day would be in order too. You never have a hair out of place, even on the coldest of winter days, snow swirling outside, you come in from the elements without even a hint of hat head or a runny nose! It’s just incredible. May I have your hair stylist’s number?
I have noticed that where you live Hallmark, there are no plow trucks and the snow that’s piled up on the sides of the roads is perfectly white. Now that I think of it, the cars are clean and shiny too. There is no dull, white salt residue to rub up against and dirty those beautiful coats of yours.
Hallmark, do you mind introducing me to one of your prince friends who hales from some obscure small sovereign country? Your friend Candace has plenty of handsome boyfriends, please consider me for your next match making escapade. I too can fly off at a moments notice and go play princess.
If it’s okay with you, I would like to come visit you someday Hallmark. I wouldn’t want to be a bother, so you could have your good looking cousin pick me up at the airport and bring me into town in his truck. I know that he would fall madly in love with me and my 3 children. We could all make snowmen and drink hot chocolate at the local cafe. It would be so much fun! And afterwards we could hit the tree lighting ceremony in the town square and sing Christmas carols. Would you like that?
But what I love the most about you Hallmark is that when I am with you, I never feel disappointed. I always know exactly what I am going to get. A wistful sigh and a flutter inside. You kiss me goodnight and leave me with a heart full of hope that I too will be able to pull it all together like you someday.
Thank you Hallmark, for being my trusty old friend.
Fondly,
Kate
