COMING OFF THE CHRISTMAS HIGH

The Little Blue Bird

A Reminder January 3, 2019

Happy Friday!

Just so you know, the fog of the holiday sugar high and carb overload is still very much with me. Don’t you worry, though, I am valiantly clawing my way through the very last bits of Christmas cookies and fudge. It’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it. 😉

And, I am also feeling a little overwhelmed at the matter of getting back into the regular routine of life after the holidays. Half-heartedly I am looking around at all of the Christmas decorations that need to be taken down and put away, the mound of paperwork that managed to pile up at the end of December, and the laundry that needs to be folded. But I know after this weekend of tear down and organization, I will be fully on my way to embracing January and all of the possibilities that lie ahead in the new year. I really can’t wait … I just have to get there.

All I can say is, thank heavens this has been a short week!

Because I know that I can’t be the only one suffering with these ailments, I don’t want to take too much of your time. Rather than write a long column, I wanted to give you some food for thought and a little peak at what helps to ground me when life seems to be taking over.

This morning, as I was driving in the car listening to the quiet, I thought of this little dish that sits on the trinket shelf above my mother’s kitchen sink. I think of it often … it reminds me.

It was given to her many years ago by a dear family friend who watched over me and my sisters when my mother went back to work on a part-time basis.

The little porcelain dish has a painted bluebird on it with the saying, “The time to be happy is now.”

It’s true. The time to be happy is now.

No use putting it off, start today and take a few minutes to bring happiness into your life …

I think I will go make myself a cup of coffee and pet the dog before I start dinner. The paperwork can wait for a bit. 🙂

Here’s to getting back into it 100% — next week!

And being happy with you, today.

With much thought,
Kate
