Yikes! It’s cold! (Finally)
Ooh, did I say that too loud?
I hate the cold, but at the same time, we needed it here in the Northeast. It was time for the ground to freeze, the ticks to die, and the ski slopes to fully open.
And I have kept walking every day, working out, fiercely getting my work done, and eating things like mac and cheese, chocolate cake, and fresh-from-Florida Navel oranges.
I plunged at 1 degree! Yes, I did! I figured the water was about 36 degrees, and it felt great compared to the air! Thank goodness for cattle troughs and their winter heaters to keep them from freezing! Works great by my pool! (By the way, I plan on opening it on the Spring Equinox, March 20th.)
And I went to a Dolly Parton birthday party on a Thursday night–of all things!
Other than “9 to 5” and “Islands in the Stream,” I don’t know many Dolly songs, but my polar plunging comrades do. I figured, what the heck? I can don a blonde wig, stuff my shirt a bit, wear a jean jacket, put on a little red lipstick, and belt out any karaoke song as long as the words are provided. So I did. And it was a hoot!
Have some fun, find your joy, and work hard. Summer will be here soon, and it will be back to flip-flops and barbecues.
We choose to be happy every day when we swing our legs over the bed and put our two feet on the ground. Some days, it’s easier than others, but choose it. The dark days of winter need you to make them sunny.
With love and warmth,
Kate
