From the Other Side of the Tractor Parade

November 17, 2024

Hold on to your hats, and fasten your seatbelts. It’s time for the 12th Annual Holiday Lighted Tractor Parade in Greenwich, NY!

In the past, preparation involved planning food to host the family and friends who traditionally pop over and come through before and after the parade. Our house has always been on the parade route, a hub.

But this year…this year is a different story.

Preparation began in July when Morning Ag Clips accepted the position as the management team of our local chamber of commerce, which organizes the tractor parade every year.

Let’s just put it this way: we dove in head first and haven’t come up for air yet! Whew! It’s been busy!

From helping pull together communications to putting together their first-ever tractor parade program and guide, food vendors, and tractor driver meetings, there is a lot to it! I had no idea!

In addition to the regular details that my crew had to learn, there was a parade route change. Due to the event’s popularity, the chamber was forced to change the parade route through town to help make the event safer and more easily accessible in an emergency.

You wouldn’t think that changing the parade route would have such an impact on a village, but it does. Humans are just like farm animals: They hate change, resist it, and push back.

So, I will hang the Christmas lights outside and put the white candles in the windows.  It’s a little early, but I want to be ready for the biggest event in Greenwich every year.

Before volunteering, I will plug everything in to put on some holiday magic during our beloved event.

For me, Tractor Parade Day will not be about cooking and hosting, but it will be about community, helping…and ensuring that everything goes well for our little village event!  That’s BIG!

It’s a magical night that brings together the farms and the community, making our town so very special.

Have a great week!

With love,
Kate
