IT'S EVERYONE'S RESPONSIBILITY ...

2018 USDA Ag Census: Get it done!

Let our lawmakers know about your farm operation March 22, 2018

Have you sold, or normally do you sell, more than $1000 worth of agricultural products in a year?

If you can answer yes to this, or know someone who can, it is your duty to fill out the 2018 USDA Agricultural Census, or remind another person to do it.

In the big scheme of things, it takes a short amount of time. So, make a date with yourself and your computer, fill up a nice big mug of hot coffee, and pair it with your favorite donut. Take a stretch, sit down, and answer away!

Why? Because you want to be counted! If you care about the future of agriculture, you need to do this. The census is the vehicle used to let our lawmakers know what we are doing out in the field everyday.

We don’t have any business complaining to lawmakers if we don’t communicate and paint an accurate picture of our agricultural industry that they are working for — yes, they are working for us.

This is our chance to let lawmakers know how many acres we plant of soybeans, or the number of cows we milk, what fruits and vegetables we are growing, and where we are selling them. Our government officials need to see how big or small our revenues actually are so that they can help.

It doesn’t matter whether you live in the Midwest, California, or New England — your answers matter.

And for those of you who don’t make $1000 or more a year on ag products, but who work with farmers everyday (which I know many of you do), take it on as your responsibility to make sure that they are filling out the census — spread the word.

My goal for today is to get you to click here and GET TO IT: https://www.agcensus.usda.gov/

Happy weekend!
