I am not a very political person, but I am a person who recognizes and has a great deal of respect for good people.
We lost a good person this past week, former President of the United States of America, George H. W. Bush.
Over the last 7 days, I was able to watch interview after interview while our country reflected on his life.
Eyes brimming full with tears, as I listened, memories came at me of the really good people who have passed in and out of my life. The lessons that they taught me, the fun that was had, and the wisdom that was passed on.
I was reminded how thankful I am for the family that I was born into and the family that has found me over the years.
I felt sadness as I watched a family in mourning, so raw with emotion. A family bound together in love, through health and sickness, good times and sad times.
I could relate … maybe we all could relate in one way or another.
But, above all, after listening to the reflections on our 41st President’s life, I was left with hope.
Hope that, someday, we will be able to set our differences aside and come to the table with grace, love, and humility.
Maybe then we will be able to recognize the genuine goodness that I know resides in each and every one of us.

Farewell to our 41st President. Thank you for your years of service to this country.
And a toast: “To dying young … as late as possible.”
With love and peace,
Kate
