A BUSY MIND ...

Something to Resonate …

Let’s settle a bit August 9, 2020

I have many thoughts going on in my mind this Sunday afternoon.

It’s funny, sometimes our minds seem fixated on one thing. Other times it feels as if there is a party going on up there with different songs pumping through the speakers, each with its own rhythm and tune. Very challenging to follow at times, right?!

Instead of writing about one thing this week, I am going to write about a few. They are all things that have circulated this week in my mind and given me a moment to take a pause and think. Maybe one of these items will resonate with you, and will allow somewhat of a reset to happen within yourself that will spark something bigger for the week. Anything to get you moving in a direction that is a little different than your norm. Isn’t that what makes for an interesting life?

Resetting:

I got a chance to spend some time with a friend of mine this week while she and her family were enjoying my camp on their vacation. The kids and I didn’t completely hijack their vacation, but we did for a few days — sorry R’s ;-). We couldn’t resist … you’re just too much fun!

During the hijacking, I was able to sneak out and enjoy my female companion on a kayak tour around the lake. We took the kayaks through a stand of lily weeds, which I love to do to scope out big fish lurking under the pads. While looking, a little painted turtle tried to swim under my kayak. Without a hesitation, I reached into the water and grabbed him out.

He wasn’t too happy with me, and even gave me a little hiss as he thrashed for a moment in my clutches. And then he settled down and looked at me. And I him. “Hello little guy. Just a moment to say hello to you. No intentions of holding you hostage. An opportunity for our worlds to meet, for just a blink.” A few breaths passed, and then I put him down, with a smile and a change of heart … for it was a natural reset. Everything had shifted, the moment, the conversation had changed, and I was joyful. Happy, that something as simple as an interaction with a turtle could be so fun … and still, at 45, I could catch one.

Manual Work:

Dad and I stained another side of the bunkhouse this morning in our quest to get everything on my camp property stained this summer. I like working to complete a project. But what I like is working with my father. It’s quiet and peaceful. It’s steady and reassuring. How lucky I am to be 45 and have a dad that can out-stain me and even does the ladder work too. 🙂

Deeper Thought:

This was shared on facebook this past week, and I thought that it was a thinker, a reminder that every day is a gift.

“Not everyone is given the chance to grow old. So, appreciate and thank God for every single day of your life. Amen.”

Last Snapshot of the Week:

One of my favorite things to do on a Friday evening with my three boys is to go golfing. We can all do it together, and I can somewhat keep up with them still and their shots. It’s a great way to end our week, together. Thank you babies!

Here’s to a great week!

With love,
Kate
