If you are a mom, I am sure you have one.
The picture that captures a moment in time when you are revealed.
“I am dead inside from nurturing these children.”
If you have been there, you get it.
If you are in it, we get it, and we are here to tell you you will get out of it.
If you haven’t yet gotten there–you don’t understand, but trust me, you will.
These women pictured here, with me, on Sunday morning reminded me of this time. We had an entire conversation about it due to a picture that surfaced from a wedding many years ago. The phrase “dead inside picture” was coined, and we all vowed to dig one out and share it.
It goes back to the time right after the children are born, when you are running around, caring so much for them that you are numb to everything around you, including yourself.
On the surface, you may have a smile on your face, but the hollow, sunken-in look around your eyes reveals a different story. You are drop-dead exhausted and would give anything for Calgon to take you away.
Any woman who has been through this can recognize another going through it a mile away, and our hearts go out to them. In fact, we will do handstands to help. We understand; we have been there.
So, here is mine. Take a good hard look into those eyes, and you will see a very exhausted 29-year-old woman in there, who doesn’t know it yet but will have 3 of the best boys ever and be living a great life, in 20 years–plunging into the Battenkill River, with her besties, on cold Sunday mornings in the winter.
Have a great week, everyone. And if you have a “dead inside” picture, please share. 🙂
With love,
Kate
