Thanksgiving Dinner and a Semen Tank…

Here is some food for thought as you finish the rest of the turkey leftovers and start decorating for Christmas! November 26, 2023

Only in a family that revolves around farming do you bring semen tanks over on Thanksgiving Day…

…or talk about heat cycles at the dinner table.

And let’s not forget how normal it is to discuss ovulation, insemination, and manure consistency.

We don’t think anything of it, though.  We are genuinely interested in these things, similar to how others are regarding mowing their lawns, basketball games, and what’s happening in the neighborhood.

But when someone from outside agriculture happens to be on the periphery and listens in on our conversations, they can’t help but think how odd and funny it is.  They may stop and ask, “What?”

Many of these topics of conversation are considered taboo or unheard of, especially when considering generational gaps.  Do you know many grandchildren regularly discussing clean-up bulls and genetic pairings with their grandparents?

This is food for thought as you finish the rest of the turkey leftovers and start decorating for Christmas.  We actually did bring a semen tank to Thanksgiving this year and then proceeded to put on our boots to look at the new robots milking out in the barn: just another normal day on the farm.

On another note, I am sad to send my two older kids back to college for a few weeks today. Everything is right with the world when all the kids are home. But soon enough, they will be back! And once again, my house will be full.

Here we go, marching into the next season, whether we are ready to or not!

Have a great week ahead!

With love,
Kate
