Here are my 3 Valentine’s! Tyler, Jacob, and Sam. To be honest, Valentine’s Day is a day that I am challenged with. Not because I don’t believe in telling people that you love them, but because I know, for just as many people who are feeling the love today, many more are feeling just the opposite, very unloved. It makes me sad. Maybe today, you should consider showing…
I love watching my kids play basketball. Every year, it gets more fun as they grow, change, and all of the kids get better and better at working together as a team. It’s a culture also, an institution of going to games every Friday night in the dark winter months. Truly, it helps me get through the bitter cold. The games are about sitting in the same spot…
Good Morning! Happy New Year! From my family to yours 🙂 This is what I am thinking about today: Responsibility. Specifically, how it is going to carry us through the new year. I am going to go back to New Years Day when a friend of mine brought to my attention an observation that they made. I was very calm, allowing my 16-year-old to chauffeur my 12 and 19-year-old…
There are always those situations that we wish we had handled differently. I am talking about a bad draw of interaction, a time in which you might have been put into an uncomfortable spot—not because of you, but more because of the mood of someone else. (eyebrow raise) I always feel that I need to immediately come back with a response when I am spoken to. I think most of…
It sneaks in every year, right after our own county fair in New York. The Hopkinton State Fair—the fair where I grew up, every Labor Day weekend, in New Hampshire. It is the backdrop of where I showed my cows, went to the tractor pulls and fell in love with all of my 4-H friends year after year. The reigns have been turned over to my nieces, nephews,…

Dear Dad, Thank you! Thank you for catching softball pitches after dinner and dancing in a ballet recital with me when I was 8. Thank you for moving me 4 times my first year out of college and rescuing me from a guard rail on one snowy night — you told me I shouldn’t go out. Thank you for buying me Toby and carting me back and forth…
It’s a smell that most find disgusting … but yet I find welcoming. It brings me back to many years of good times, with some challenging times. Work and play, summer and winter. It represents chewing cuds and the milking parlor. It’s fresh, line-dried sheets on the bed, and song sparrows sitting in the sumac hedge. And people who don’t raise farm animals just won’t get it ……
..and I had a very busy week. Here’s to the start of a week that is going to be about a fun picture. And if you need a little motivation listen to this, a classic: Have a great Monday and I will be back next week 🙂 With love, Kate…
