Hello Indiana

A Weekend Visit and a Nugget

Sweet April 17, 2023

I had a great weekend with Tyler at Purdue for FarmHouse Mom’s Weekend. This year was even bigger and better, with more moms–which was great! We put together a flower arrangement and cookbooks of our favorite recipes.  I can’t wait to start cooking!

I always enjoy my time with Tyler, and out of it, there is always a nugget to share.

As I sit here and write, I am tired from leaving my hotel at 2:45 this morning and can barely keep my eyes open, but I wanted to share this little something about grandparents.

Even though, as your grandchildren get older, you may feel more and more on the periphery of their lives, they still love and care about you, a great deal.

When your grandchildren were young, your children needed you physically, to help them as they juggled the struggles of raising young kids.  It was about babysitting, zipping up jackets, and tying shoes.  The kind of things that were everyday in nature–but are fleeting as the babies get older and more independent.

Over time, there were fewer emergency calls to Grandma for help, or bedtimes that needed coverage.

But all of those “everyday” things created the bond that keeps bringing your grandchildren back to you.  You don’t see them nearly as often as you used to, but they miss you.

And when your 20-year old son says at dinner how ready he is to see his grandparents–it brought a tear to my eye and warmed my heart.

Thank you to 4 very special grandparents. Without you 4, I am not sure how Tyler, Jacob, and Samuel’s parents would have done it.

You are loved, appreciated, and enjoyed by your grandchildren.  They look forward to seeing you.  And that is very special.

With love,
Kate
